On Friday 14 November we celebrated the spirit of leadership that runs through the Community and Enterprise Leadership Foundation (CELF) alumni community, by recognising an Alumni Leader of the Year.
This award shines a light on a leader who embodies CELF’s mission: “growing responsible leaders for a connected and thriving Waikato.” It’s about integrity, courage, and compassion - qualities that make a genuine difference.
Dr Peter Sun, announced this year’s recipient, Andrea McBeth, describing her as a courageous, values-driven leader whose “who-ness became her superpower.” Andrea leads in her role with the New Zealand Police, with clarity, compassion, and conviction, holding herself accountable and facing public scrutiny with courage.
Her ability to build genuine partnerships and think systemically shows her strength in integrative leadership. Andrea is also a continuous learner, completing her Executive master’s in public administration, through the Australia and New Zealand School of Government, while serving in a challenging role.
Andrea’s legacy is one of inspiration, especially for women in leadership. As a finalist for Most Outstanding Female Leader by the Australasian Council of Women and Policing, she represents the very best of CELF.
Selecting the CELF Alumni Leader of the Year is never easy, and we honour those who have gone before: Rachel Karalus, Kylie Leonard, Brett Maber, and Norm Hill.
Congratulations, Andrea, and thank you to all CELF alumni who continue to lead with purpose.
