Graeme Geurts

Today's CELF board member in the spotlight is Graeme Geurts, Head of Waikato Region for BNZ. Here is a few Q&A's that we did with Graeme.

Describe your biggest obstacles in life and how you mastered them.
I have to say I feel grateful that I don’t recall anything I have really had in life that has felt that big of an obstacle.  Challenge wise it would always be the dreaded clock, never enough hours to fulfil all the things I want to achieved but it’s the old story of having clear priorities.

What was your biggest epiphany: the moment of life-defining change that shaped you into the person you are today?
As corny as it sounds CELF has played a massive role, especially professionally.  It comes back to the importance of knowing one’s self and the power that’s harnessed as a result.

What is your life philosophy? How did you develop this philosophy?
There’s 2 for me and they are weirdly related in some respects.  Treat others how you would like to be treated and the importance of reflection.  I can’t pin point a time where I decided they were important and therefore focused on development but interestingly they are also important parts of the CELF journey.  I imagine they are more a reflection of your environment as a child.

Who have been your strongest influences in life?
Family and friends.  They all in their own way have played a role and influenced me, some more than others.

What led you to your career?
I have never really been a career planner until recently, and school never provided much clarity.  I stumbled across Finance and it has suited my analytical mind and interest in the economy.

What are you most proud of accomplishing?

What is your hidden talent or superpower?
Some find it somewhat frustrating and not sure how hidden it is but I see logical orders in where many see confusion.  It comes from the use of the 2 ears one mouth philosophy.

What book/podcast are you reading/listening to now?
I have been a bit lazy recently but really rate “Mindset” and anything by Simon Sinek
