Leadership looks different from here.

A leadership experience grounded in place, strengthened by perspective, and designed to grow the people shaping the Waikato.

THE EXPERIENCE

This is leadership experienced, not just taught.

Leadership Waikato is not about sitting in a classroom learning someone else’s version of leadership. The Waikato becomes the classroom. Participants meet leaders where leadership is happening and encounter different communities, organisations, challenges and ways of thinking.

The result is bigger than professional development. It changes the way you see leadership, your place in the Waikato and the difference you can make.

A YEAR THAT CHANGES YOUR PERSPECTIVE

Step out of the day-to-day. See the bigger picture.

Throughout the programme, five connected lenses help participants reflect on who they are, understand the place they lead in and make a more deliberate contribution.

Self

Develop greater awareness of who you are as a leader, what shapes you and how you show up.

Others

Learn alongside people with different experiences, cultures, sectors and perspectives.

Place

Experience the Waikato’s communities, organisations, opportunities and challenges first-hand.

Systems

Explore the interconnected systems influencing our region and leadership beyond organisational boundaries.

Impact

Think deliberately about the contribution you can make through your work, community and leadership.

WHO IT’S FOR

The leader behind the title matters most.

You do not need a particular title. What matters is curiosity, openness, a willingness to contribute and a commitment to making a positive difference.

01 Leading a team, organisation or community

03 An established leader seeking fresh perspective

05 Ready to understand the Waikato beyond your own sector

02 Stepping into greater leadership responsibility

04 Working across business, community, government or not-for-profit

06 Curious to connect with people you might not otherwise meet

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

The region is part of the learning.

Moving through the Waikato gives participants context that conventional leadership development cannot: a deeper understanding of the place they lead in and the systems and people around them.

Learn with people you might never
otherwise meet.

Different sectors, cultures and experiences challenge assumptions and create conversations that rarely happen inside one organisation. Over the programme, the cohort becomes a trusted community.

BEYOND THE PROGRAMME

Come for the programme. Become part of the community

Leadership Waikato does not end with graduation. Alumni join a wider CELF community whose relationships, collaboration and shared learning continue across business and community.

FOR EMPLOYERS

Grow a leader. Strengthen your organisation.

Participants return with broader perspectives, stronger regional connections, greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of leadership across different contexts.

ACCESS AND SPONSORSHIP

Leadership opportunity should be shared.

CELF works with partners to broaden participation, because the Waikato benefits when leadership capability grows across our whole
community - not only where development budgets are largest.

YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

Could Leadership Waikato be your next step?

You do not need all the answers. If you are curious about your leadership, interested in the place you live and work, and ready to learn alongside people whose worlds may look different from yours, we would love to hear from you.
